Sanctions Law Clearing Out Illegals in Arizona

Filed under: az immigration, id checks — jspinks @ 9:01 am

If apartments are starting to sit vacant, this must mean that the new Arizona Immigration Sanctions Law is starting to take its toll on the illegal immigrants here in Arizona. What will this mean for your company?

“The sanctions law is pushing immigrants to leave the state. The law is aimed at clamping down on illegal immigration in Arizona, which has the highest share of illegal immigrants of any state, by threatening to yank the business licenses of employers caught knowingly employing such workers.

The law also requires businesses to electronically verify the work eligibility of all new hires as of the first of this year.

To avoid sanctions, employers have been letting go workers who can’t prove they have permission to work in the U.S.

As a result, many immigrants are leaving, either to other states where they think it will be easier to get jobs, or back to Mexico, where the majority of illegal immigrants in Arizona are from.”

So far, the law has done what it was intended to do. How has this law affected your company? Businesses that catered to the illegal population have seen drastic sales hits, apartments have seen a large wave of vacancies, what will be next?

  2. We need this enforced every where. There would not be a need to increase taxes if they would all go home.
We really need to end the anchor baby law. Whatever the mothers nationality is thats what the baby is if here
    illegally.

  3. Kudos to Arizona for having the courage to enact such a law. We need more of our legislators willing to bring this country back to what is was. I only wish California wasn’t so “forgiving” to all the world’s unfortunate. Your country is what you make of it. Apparently, our Southern friends don’t take much pride in theirs. Otherwise, there would be no need to come here and drain all of our country’s resources.

  5. There is no right to enter the country illegally, not even for a job !! The laws we have on the books now ,must be enforced. Can you think of any other law that you can break and get a reward ?? That is what is happening with illegal immigration !!! They break our laws and get big rewards while those who would come legally wait in line and receive nothing !! Imagine someone breaking into your house and demanding to be put on the lease !! It is an outrage in a tax based economy to be forced to pay for the needs of foreign nationals who have entered the country unlawfully. It is taxation without representation !! Join the Tea Party ,and lets tea bag the liberals !!

  6. As I am reading most of the STUPID AND IGNORANT COMMENTS some people make here, I give thanks to the patriots who enacted the freedom of speech right. Because they do not understand or even know why an immigrant decides to take the road and endure

1 ASSAULTS, ROBBERIES, RAPE AND MANY OTHER CRIMES
    2 HUNGER, TIRENESS ,SICKNESS
    3 SADNESS, HOPELESSNES,

WHAT ARE YOU ANYWAYS BUT IMMIGRANTS IN THE LAND OF THE NATIVE INDIANS OF AMERICA. ARENT THEY, THE TRUE AMERICANS.

FOR THOSE THAT HAVE THE GUTS TO CRITIZE WHY OTHERS MAKE THE DECISION TO COME ILLEGALLY TO THE UNITED STATES. I DARE YOU TO COME TO EL SALVADOR, AND LIVE IN CENTRAL OR SOUTH AMERICA UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS THEY WERE LIVING. ONLY THEN YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND AND BE ABLE TO CRITIZE. STOP BEING STUPID, AND BEFORE YOU MAKE IGNORANT COMMENTS, PUT YOURSELF IN THEIR SHOES,,, AND YEAH, I AM FROM EL SALVADOR, AND I AM A PROUD RETIRED MEMBER OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY AND I FOUGHT DEFENDING YOUR RACIST ASS MANY TIMES.,, BE RACIST TO THAT, IF YOU CAN

I think that it is about time that the states finally are getting around to following the law, it’s aparent that our government will not do ahything about illegals taking over this country. people will say that i’m a racist because i support protecting this country from foreign invaders but that is just the only argument that they have, when you can’t prop up your opinon with facts you race bait.

  9. Now that the country has a black President, those in our society that are crying “We want our Country Back”, have been pushed over the edge. As far as i am concerned, you cannot have your Country Back! It’s my Country. It’s soon to be the country of over 1/2 of the population who will be Spanish Speaking and Spanish surname (within two generations). You do not deserve having my Country back. I am delighted that in MY Country, we all now have a choice of “press one for Spanish, two for English”, opportunities everywhere. Soon there will be so many Latinos that the way will be clear for us Latinos to believe that in the 22nd Century, history will be re-written without European intervention.

  10. Their are immigrants from all over the world. Racists here in America see a brown skin Latino, and they classify him as a Mexican. Latinos are from Mexico, Central America, and South America. Arizona should leave the hispanic people alone. These are the people that do the hard work for cheap wages. These are the people that pick the vegetables on your dinner plate, that cook the food when you dine at restaurants. Just remember that Arizona.

  13. Ok! Alright! So Arizona we are doing something to straighten the work force to open the doors to those who have legal rights to work, but allot of people are depending on welfare in general us Americans not just the illegal mexicans, but they are Indians, Middle Easters and chinese. So for everyone to say bravo finally something is being done, come on wake up everyone, we are a bunch of lazy bums who don’t like to clean, like they pay an illegal to work for half of what we are expected to get pay to clean or built, and yes they work hard to make a living here since there Mexican land is corrupted by their government and lack of respect of their land. Next time we all say illegal lets think really hard that they are not just Mexicans but a whole other diverse groups who are here legally, think educatedly, why are we being haters towards this people. The companys own by our real American brothers are the ones who benefit from them being here by paying them low wages to have massive streets built, buildings engrave, and homes and offices and streets clean, so please if we are going to complain pick up you asses and start to work as hard as they do

    Comment by R.M — April 23, 2010 @ 5:08 pm

  18. First of all this is legislation that brewer thinks will further her career, which is how most decisions are made at that level isn’t it? She doesn’t care about racial profiling, its not like they’ll be stopping her and asking for her “papers”. I find it hilarious when people say “my country” or they say the U.S. is being invaded by “foreigners”, Mexicans were here before any of you. You were the foreigners, and like the Europeans always do, they took what they wanted in the name of religion. It is our Ancestors who were born in this land, it is the Europeans who crossed an ocean to come here. If anyone belongs here it is us, not you. You use any excuse to isolate groups, the racism doesn’t end. Do you want to know why we call this law racist? Brewer says they need to do something about the drug cartel and the violent crimes that “illegal immigrants” are causing. Where are these statistics coming from? Plus, in case you didn’t know, the “drug cartel” have MONEY, they HAVE papers! whether real or not they have papers to cross the border and to show to police officers if needed. This Law will only encourage retaliation against innocent immigrants. Where immigrants may have started trusting in law enforcement to report crime or abuse now they will be scared to death to even call. A woman will get beaten by her husband will refuse to call the police because of fear of being arrested herself, and what about rape? OPEN YOUR EYES, and look at the consequences, and know that the up rise will be immense. You think that you will get away with this because illegal immigrants will be hesitant to have their voice heard, but know this, they are not the ones who stand up and protest, they are too scared to do so. We, Hispanics like myself are the ones who will rise to protest this and who will speak for those who cannot. I am a citizen of the U.S. and both of my brothers and my sister served and are serving in the U.S. military for you ungrateful assholes. It is our parents, grandparents and cousins that you are planning to abuse, you are naive if you think we will not stand to defend them.

  19. Latinos are not the only immigrants in this country. Asians, Europeans, and Africans are also immgrants in this country. This was a country of immigrants, and states that were once part of Mexico. Lands that were also stolen from the Native Americans. You can see that there is so much hate that we have an african-american president and want to take their hate on the Latinos. Talk about creating more hate.

    Comment by Rafa — April 23, 2010 @ 5:40 pm

  20. Karla, just to let you know that here in Nebraska, Latinos stood up and were counted! Despite Missouri Carpet-bagger David Kobach, who came into this state as a paid gun=slinger to fight against in-state tuition for the undocumented. We won that battle. We stood toe to toe against the panicking hoards of well off white men who suddenly feel that they are morally able to chant “We want our Country Back”, as the blood of all indigenous tribes continues to dry on their hands! It was Chicanos,Mexicanos and Latinos from Venenzuela, from Colombia and Peru that stood up to F.A.I.R. and their henchmen who brought their legal minds to bear on legislation that was passed in 2007 to provide educational opportunities to those that graduated in Nebraska and entered higher education that were undocumented through no fault of their own. All of this hate that is being slung on our President, all this anger and venom that proliferates from the Conservative Right, are signs of panic, signs of moral decay within the institutions that remain the pillar of Western Civilization. W.A.S.P.’s throughout America are desperately arming themselves, wearing military grade weapons openly to make political statements! All because they have suddenly woke up to an America changing beneath their feet, in their bedrooms, in their schools, in their restaurants and hotels. An America that sends chills up the spine of white men who continue to see themselves as the Masters of the Universe.
I want to express my sincere support for your statement that Chicanos, that Raza will never forget the journey from the South, the fact that we did not cross any borders, those borders crossed us over 160 years ago. Now that the Arizona Governor has signed 7010 into law, todos de nosotros estaremos UNIDOS and continue to face down bigotry, racism and the cultural juggernaut whose intention is to drive us out of “Our Country”.

  21. Well to all of those who speak bad about this law and served in the military, you have i presumed joined to get your citenship right? that means you gave up your citenship from where you came across, well you are american now pay taxes and have the right to speak but if this law is not about racial profileing it is about makeing sure people are here legally. Do like paying for there education, welfare… are you that rich if so then let me an american get some of your money to support me, i bet that goes over good dont it. the president should move out of the white house and live in Az for a while somwhere like those rancher that get there homes burglaized and what they have paid for get stolen by those that cross illigally, maybe his childdren and wife get sexually assulted or scared some night by those crossing illigaly. Wonder if he would then open his eyes or what? move right, well I also serve this country and am 3rd generation hispanc, mescan what evver some you have done to segreate your self to be , i am American. It sure is great to see those here illigally flying a mexico flag wanting to have a voice here any have not EARN that RIGHT. Yet they enjoy the benifits but there loyalty is to Mexico… with that you tell me then how can it be that the taxaying american here LEGALY not be upset. If they have there loyalty to Mexico and love is so much then why come to a country that dose not want then? I see it so much that it make mad to see someone in Ca waving a mexico flag wanting to have a voice when if they are here ILLEGALY want to protest. Why do El Salvadororians, Hondurains not stay in mexico when they are coming across/ well some needs to tell CNN, FOX and all those news to do a report on what does Mexicos immagration policy… I bet ya we Americans cant go over there and protest because if we do we get beat up and locked up. someone read there constituation and what there lawsa are… how can and why are we giving illgals avoice D. Gutierrez of Illiones, what do you know living up state know what goes on in the south other that waht you get reported on… Go ahead lead a team w/cameras in to mexico and let the whole world see how there laws are .. i bet you those who oppose this law wont even consider it and Mexico will tell you straigt out you have no bussiness telling us what laws to put into place. I know have been there to see it first hand. Like i satated I am of desent: hispanic , mexican ect, but I bleed RED WHITE & BlUE, i also fight for this country. It may not be the most perfect but you done see me wanting to go to Mexico, Germany, iran, iraq, ect… No I will stay here but those of you who are not wanting this is because you eiter have family down south and want them here and dont want to do it the right way that that Legal. If you want to come to the U.S.A then do it right way. If you can garennteme that i can live in mexico and get welfare when i arrive medical free and have a child have a voice just cause i crossed somewhere with out the goverment knowing and they wont kick me out then be able to get the rest of my family over live together in a just liveable apartment lost cost, signs in english (yea right)driver license, 20 or mor yrs to get citenship well hey I am gone. Like i have wrote I am from mexican desent i can not deny it but i am American and I hope Texas Gov. rick perry has the you know what to follow suit. As for the pres well like i said give up Penn Ave move to Az, Tx, NM and see what is is realyy like. Oh and tell mexicos people you want to run there for presidente… see what that get you.

  22. The law is the law! Nothing more, nothing less. Illegals are illegal, very simple, and they must leave the country. If they have the courage and fortitude, they can become legal citizens just like all those others who have done so living here legally. If you are illegal leaving is necessary to prevent arrest or deportation.

    Comment by whamo — April 26, 2010 @ 10:48 am

  23. Sad to think, that the people who are actually behind this law are being called rasist. Most of us behind the law are saying illigal immagrants, and saying they are coming from mexico, not many are saying mexican, latino, slang terms refering to a person coming from the south or anything. Yet it automatically means when we say illigal immagrant that we are talking about mexicans and you all get so offended. Innocent people don’t run from the cops right? A dog doesn’t sulk around with his tail between its legs if he knows he didn’t do something wrong, so why get so offended when a country that so many broke the law to get into finally puts its foot down to stop this fence jumping crap. Is it because your one of these people AZ will weed out sooner or later. If you earned your keep to get into the country then don’t you think everyone else should have to? And no, people think they come for jobs and a better life. Yeah a life that I’ve seen personally of 8 people living in a one bedroom apartment living off grandmas welfare checks that she happens to get cuz she had a kid on american soil. The same people complaining about this law probably also complain about high taxes and rising prices on everything. You do realize your taxes are paying for these illigals to get a meal and a ride home, and paying for all the others working the american system to get there xbox and bigscreen tvs on the wall in front of the five matresses in the living room. I’m sorry but its true and I have seen it all over. And if your offended, its prob cuz your one of them. I don’t call you racist when I go to san felipe and get pulled over cuz I’m an american, I don’t get mad when I’m called a wedo, so just deal with it, every state should do it, get the lazy americans to get jobs again in hard labor, so the money goes to the people who earned living in the US, jobs will be readily availible if illegals didn’t take them cuz we are selfish and don’t want to pay decent wages, we all have to give a little and take a little, take the illigals and who ever support them to jail, and give the money from the jobs to the americans who complain about not having them. Good job AZ!

  25. It’s time someone enforced the law. The Federal government has been negligent to address this contentious issue, and now with the President engaging in race baiting, there will be bloodshed before it’s all over. Get people excited, and things happen. You aren’t dealing with well behaved TEA partiers here. You’re dealing with a group of people by their very presence are committing a crime. To ignore that fact is to say that any law has no value. A government’s purpose is to create a stable environment, where all laws are enforced to keep that stability, where citizens pay their share to support government. Illegals that are here are not paying their share, increasing the burden on the infrastructure, costing more for law enforcement to do their job. The size of law enforcement is based on a census, when you have half a million extra people, how do you lay out enough protection for everyone? It’s not enough to have law, it must be enforced. I blame Obama for not taking the right direction on this, and Congress for their ignorant behavior, where they would rather force health care down our throats than deal with an issue that’s been around since the Clinton administration.

1 ASSAULTS, ROBBERIES, RAPE AND MANY OTHER CRIMES
    2 HUNGER, TIRENESS ,SICKNESS
    3 SADNESS, HOPELESSNES

Americans have to endure it now? WTH? If you are ILLEGAL go home. You already have us pressing “1″ to speak English, now you’re trying to change the definition of illegal to racism? Get an education (in your own country) and then contribute something to the states and country you are invading. Their own country doesn’t want them or else they wouldn’t be “breaking into” the U.S. That should not be our problem and our LEGAL citizens, hispanic, white, black, asian, etc, should no longer live in fear. The ignorance of the illegal community is crazy … laborers making statements that they will “fight” … who gave you the right? You talk about Americans being lazy but your dumba$$e$ are too lazy to become legal or too stupid. You want to live here, pay taxes and DO something to contribute to the system you are raping. Pretty soon, not even your “anchor babies” will have a system to live off of either so MOVE ON AND MOVE OUT. Way to stand up for FREEDOM and RIGHTS of AMERICAN CITIZENS. And to all you American Hispanics in an uproar over this, get over it. If you’re a citizen then you have nothing to worry about.

    Comment by TEXAS — April 27, 2010 @ 8:11 pm

  31. America may be in an uproar over the new Arizona Immigration Law but this, well read for yourself and form your own opinion:

“Now that the country has a black President, those in our society that are crying “We want our Country Back”, have been pushed over the edge. As far as i am concerned, you cannot have your Country Back! It’s my Country. It’s soon to be the country of over 1/2 of the population who will be Spanish Speaking and Spanish surname (within two generations). You do not deserve having my Country back. Soon there will be so many Latinos that the way will be clear for us Latinos to believe that in the 22nd Century, history will be re-written without European intervention.” ~Jose Rios

Yes you read every word of that correctly. It is no longer our country. (Was I asleep for that?)

I call on my fellow man today, not for myself but for my children and my children’s children. Don’t be afraid to stand up for America. Not because you’re white, or black, or Asian, or Hispanic, or whatever…but because you are American!! This is PRO-AMERICA, ANTI-RACISM.

Has the English language become so twisted that illegal now means racist?

Plain and simple, stop hiring those undocumented workers or companies that use them, stop giving government benefits to ANYONE who cannot prove they are a citizen of this country, stop encouraging them to disregard the English language. Just stop the madness.

I am a mother of bi-racial children and I myself am of Hispanic heritage. However, I am also an American citizen and just the thought of this country ending up like some underdeveloped country leaves me in fear for my children and my grandchildren. Where have OUR rights gone while the news is only covering those rights that are being violated? Those rights, let me remind you, don’t exist for illegal immigrants, so what is the argument?

Arizona simply played the hand that is written into our governing laws. Nowhere in the implementation of those laws does it state there will be profiling or abuse, nowhere does it state Hispanics will be the only targets on this enforcement.

We aren’t trying to take anyone to the gas chambers like the Nazi’s did, we simply want them to go home IF THEY ARE ILLEGAL. There seems to be some misinterpretation as to what the law entails.

Illegals are raping a system that was put in place to help American citizens in their time of need. Now Americans are being turned away because the system is overloaded by the illegal immigrants that came to America to pop out a baby as their meal ticket. Unemployment rates are sky rocketing because employers hire under the table for less than minimum wage. American citizens are being killed as a result of illegal immigrants hiding out on their land to steal their food.

It’s time to take a stand America and if not now, when? Are we to wait until our children are adults before we take action or was that simply the plan our Government has had all along? If one more generation puts this off the results will be catastrophic.

Comment by Still Waiting for Change — April 27, 2010 @ 9:03 pm

  32. Syd: Really? Legal Americans have nothing to worry about? That’s funny because I the whole reason this is getting so much attention is because it promotes racial profiling. Just because someone is legally in the US doesn’t make them immune to racial profiling. This new law makes me sick. We might as well hand out patches to legal latinos and make camps for the illegals, oh wait… we have work papers and jails instead.

    Comment by Emily — April 27, 2010 @ 9:13 pm

  33. Emily & Others alike: I seriously don’t understand how you can say such things and feel comfortable. It makes me violently ill to see so many people here and in the political media so readily and easily use Nazi Germany comparisons. Whether it be with regard to this law or anything else. You all hasten so quickly to relate anything that you disagree with or consider disproportionate in tolerable allowance of enforcement with Nazi-Germany. It is disgusting and reprehensible. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves! Do you even understand that over 6 million people were slaughtered in some of the most unimaginable, horrific, careless methods known to mankind??? Do you even care that every time that you liken situations to this senseless, unmitigated torture you bring up age-old, pain and emotional suffering for so many? Some of our lives are forever affected by the grim repercussions of these terrors. It is NOT comparable to an immigration law. The effects are NOT comparable.

You feel that the law is unfair because people will have to carry papers (like all legal citizens who drive are required by law to carry a drivers license - no inequality there,) and if they don’t then they will go to jail (where all those who break the law can be justifiably sent - no inequality there either.) Fine. This is a free country where we are blessed with freedom of speech and hopefully the maturity to agree to disagree. Whether or not I feel that your argument makes sense, I do feel you are entitled to it.

However, I do ask that you - All of You Who Keep Likening This Law to Anything Even Remotely Related to the Holocaust or Nazi Involvement - PLEASE STOP!!! It is as ridiculous as it is thoughtless, tasteless, and unkind.

    Thanks for listening (reading.)

  34. I really do hope illegal immigrants leave Arizona as well as every other hispanic in the whole damn state! That way they will be able to know just how much of a huge part these people, whom they now target, played in their everyday lives; cooking at restaurants, having them do their landscaping, washing their cars, cleaning their offices and homes, taking care of their kids, fixing their cars, working the fields and warehouses for very little pay in the hot sun, stocking their supermarket shelves and so on. Not only do they contribute by working in the community but also by consuming in the community by spending their money there just making their everyday living. The state’s economy would feel it bigtime! And then we’d see if what some fools here say that then they’d be ready to take those cheap labor jobs once the lazy good for nothin Mexicans were gone! Yeah, like that would ever happen! Then those ignorant fools would just find something else to whine about like minimum wage! People who say “our country” have no idea what their supposed country really consists of and how it runs everyday and who is holding it together! Hispanics will be the majority soon and no matter what we will proudly overcome these desperate attempts to be overrun. We will stick together and will not let our voices go unheard. That vast majority of us that are legally here and are US citeizens will not let these other human beings be trampled on! This law will only cause so many violations of people’s civil rights and the abuse of power from officers enforcing them!

Sure, target illegal Mexicans and open up your borders to Canada that’s where AlQaida members come through anyways! You fools!

And stop saying that you want your country back because it wasn’t yours in the first place! Our ancestors were here long before Europeans arrived to colonize this land!

Well it is very well true that we are all illegal technically because this land belonged to the native americans but the problem with illegal immigration today is that illegal immigrants are not paying taxes they are getting free healthcare and free higher education and that is not right. Many companies hire them and let go Americans because they can pay them and not have to pay taxes on them. Every dime that comes into this country goes right back out and thats our governments fault. They have allowed so many immigrants from all over the world to just walk into this country and they could change their names everyday to avoid paying taxes. Until the affects of illegal immigrants in this country effect your lives individual and you as americans have to see first hand the heartache of not having work or not having help when you have lost your jobs and when you face losing your homes and your own family being in the streets then you that want to allow illegal immigration will never truly understand why this illegal immigration is such a big deal.

  37. Arizona and other backward-looking states are being nostalgic. You guys have only to look at the Internet to realize what the world will become in short order: A WORLD WITHOUT BORDERS. How successful is the Internet? There are no borders and it is well administered. Take a page from this book and learn the wave of the future. We live in a global community and the sooner we all begin to cultivate a global consciousness, the better off we will all be.
Will White Americans take over the work in the cotton fields? Will they become the dishwashers and hotel maids? I doubt this very much. GO GLOBAL GUYS! WE WILL ALL BE BETTER OFF FOR IT.

We have seen where unbridled capitalism has put us. Do we want to return to the same? Change is in the air and the bigots of this country are running scared. Get Educated Everybody and welcome to the GLOBAL VILLAGE.

  38. I’m glad the Justice Department is planning to sue Arizona. I’m also glad that Obama and the attorney general Eric Holder Jr. is against the bill.

  39. The 1950’s are gone baby cakes. Racist legislation is off the books through-out my Country. It was not soon enough for my Mother and Father and Tio’s, all struggling against a white only society in the 30’s and 40’s, in my Country. They did not give up and their Son’s and daughters, all of us from ‘la tercer generacion’, went on to propel Raza into the 21st Century, bringing self respect, cultural identity, and a self determination that made your’s truly an officer with a major transportation and his wife a public servant for a library system. We like our Country, I don’t see why many of our W.A.S.P., do not! Maybe it’s because their inept politicos allowed all the jobs to go to India and China. Or maybe this deep angst, this deep self depreciation, this subliminal tribal paganism that wells up in Tea Parties and other moss pit cultural rites currently practiced by balding white men whose anthem “I want my Country Back”, is a sign of their disintegrating political culture. And now that us retired Chicanos are seeing “our Country” once again a haven for the down-trodden, those desperately searching for a way to support and educate their children, we emerge as strong as ever to oversee the re=structuring of American society where our sad fellow W.A.S.P.Americans will become minorities forever searching for an identity that will be a source of solace in their old age, in My America.
